Hon. Howard T. Phillips, Jr., Chairman of The Board of Rockland Green stated, “The EPA has been a great champion and leader in the history of the environmental movement, and in recycling.  Here in Rockland, we were among the early proponents of proper waste management, when we founded the Solid Waste Management Authority over 20 years ago.  Since that time, we have gone from success to success, broadening the range and effectiveness of our waste management mission to include recycling of multiple materials, building one of the few full time Household Hazardous Waste Facilities in New York State, recycling education for the public and for school aged children, creating an environmental education center, educating about native plants, composting, saving water through rain barrels, and multiple other initiatives that have increased Rockland residents and businesses awareness of how proper waste management supports our quality of life, the beauty of our neighborhoods, parklands and waterways --- as well as our economy.
